Pierre Zappelli Named Honorary President of Panathlon Club de Lausanne

During a ceremony at the Olympic Museum on November 1, 2021, Pierre Zappelli was honored as the honorary president of the Panathlon Club de Lausanne (PCL). The event was attended by IOC President Thomas Bach and around seventy distinguished guests.

Zappelli, a Pully resident, received a standing ovation for his contributions to the panathlon movement at local, national, and international levels. An avid sportsman with experience in fencing, tennis, and mountaineering, he represents table tennis within the Panathlon and previously served as president of the Swiss Table Tennis Federation.

At 78, he was symbolically presented with a table tennis racket along with his new diploma. Zappelli is the second honorary president of the PCL, following the late Jean Presset.

A member of the PCL since 1995, Zappelli led the Lausanne club from 2008 to 2011 and the national Panathlon (Swiss District and Liechtenstein) from 2012 to 2016. He became president of Panathlon International (PI) in 2016 and was re-elected in 2020.

Congratulations to Pierre Zappelli for this well-deserved recognition!
