When?
IMSA is an association of international mind sports federations, founded in Lausanne, Switzerland, on April 19, 2005 by the representatives of the World Bridge Federation (WBF), Fédération Mondiale du Jeu de Dames (FMJD), Fédération Internationale des Echecs (FIDE), and International Go Federation (IGF).
Where?
IMSA has its registered office in Lausanne, Switzerland. IMSA also has offices in Beijing, China and is currently working on opening an office in India. IMSA also has a training centre in Tangshan and a research academy in Hangzhou giving IMSA the opportunity to market and promote better mind sports throughout China, India and Asia.

Statutory goals
The International Mind Sports Association (IMSA) is an organization that promotes and governs mind sports worldwide.
Uniting nine federations of traditional mind sports: Bridge, Federation of Card Games, Chess, Draughts, eSports, Go, Mahjong, Poker and Xiangqi with over 800 National Associations and close to two billion players all over the world.
● To promote the recognition, development, and organization of mind sports globally: IMSA aims to raise awareness about mind sports and their value, and work towards their acceptance and inclusion at various levels, including international, regional, and national.
● To establish and enforce rules and regulations for mind sports: IMSA strives to develop standardized rules and regulations for various mind sports disciplines. By providing a framework for fair play and competition, IMSA helps ensure consistency and integrity across different events and championships.
● To encourage the development of mind sports on a grassroots level: IMSA supports the growth of mind sports at the grassroots level by fostering participation among amateurs, enthusiasts, and young players. This goal involves promoting access to mind sports, organizing educational initiatives, and creating opportunities for aspiring players to improve their skills.
● To organize and oversee international mind sports competitions: IMSA is responsible for organizing and supervising international competitions and championships in mind sports. These events bring together players from around the world, showcase their talent, and provide a platform for friendly competition and cultural exchange.
● To facilitate cooperation and collaboration among member associations: IMSA serves as a platform for member associations to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and collaborate on various initiatives related to mind sports. By fostering a sense of community and cooperation, IMSA aims to strengthen the collective efforts in promoting and advancing mind sports.
IMSA has organised events in collaboration with Sportaccord a number of times as well as elite events and its World Mind Sport Games. It is currently working on setting up a Foundation in the UAE for educational development through Mind Sports.
